Having recently introduced the new sounds of Devilman via the caustic and confrontational track “Bakan Q”, the insanely prolific trio are now ready to unchain their ferocious self-titled album through Small But Hard Recordings on 5 November.

The visceral and compelling Devilman are harvested by a secret underground organisation fronted by the mysterious Mr D, master of fuzzed-out soundsystem bass (DJ Scotch Egg). Dokkebi Q’s Gorgonn delivers savage drum programming and dubwise, all distilled through the psyche-noise freak vocal of Bo Ningen’s Taigen Kawabe.

Their self-titled release is nine shards of corrosive beats, bass and razor sharp, noise-inflected live-dub destruction. Devilman have created a sound that is hard to ignore: abrasive yet accessible; infectious and expansive, shaping a new terrain for noise and bass music and living up to their namesake, the legendary Japanese comic/animation. Devilman is ultimately the soundtrack of a world being turned inside out.

This long awaited debut album will be available on Small But Hard Recordings in an edition of 500 numbered CDs and digital download. Featuring illustrious artwork from illustrator Simon Fowler, pulled together by the design skills of Electiicʼs Bryce Davesne.

“Bakan Q” is accompanied by a short film directed by Hiroo Tanaka aka Inumikaku (‪‬) which can be viewed on YouTube:

Additional notes for editorial:

Shigeru Ishihara is prolific in his output, and has collaborated with E-Da (ex Boredoms) in epic psychedelic outfit DRUM EYES; works with Bo Ningenʼs Taigen Kawabe, and Dokkebi Qʼs Gorgonn in dub distortion unit DEVILMAN, and also plays bass in newly reformed electronic pioneers, SEEFEEL.

Small But Hard is the brainchild of Shigeru Ishihara: Artist, DJ, Producer, Media Mogul and Black-market Peddler; Simon Fowler: Illustrator, Print-maker and Art Director; Dysu Imamura: production manager and co-founder and Bryce Davesne: Graphic Designer, Photographer and Art Director. The label formed naturally in January of 2012, just 18 months after Shigeru and Simon met and became friends at Supersonic Festival 2010 where Devilman were performing and Fowler was exhibiting artwork. Around the same time the label began taking shape, Simon and Bryce were talking about working together anyway so it seemed fitting to joining forces and pool resources to become the art directors for the label, using both of their skills to create one vision and aesthetic for the label. The motivation for the label was born from seeing many talented artist friends sitting on a lot of great musical material and feeling frustrated not having it put out in the public arena.

Thank you for your time!
