Sarin Smoke unleash giveaway track from brand new album

31 Aug

On September 17th, MIE in partnership with Rarely Unable PR will unleash the latest LP by Sarin Smoke, entitled Vent. In anticipation of the release the label are giving away one track, ‘Upsound’, for your listening pleasure. You can download it from Soundcloud now.

After performing at a concert in Oakland in 2010 and feeling proud of their musical output, Tom and Pete decided to collaborate with one another again. The resulting record amalgamates Tom’s recent self-oscillating, power starved shredding psychedelia, with Pete’s self proclaimed “more neanderthal attempts at VU/Roy Montgomery inspired simple melodicism”. Ultimately, the album is an unusual haze of oscillator sweeps, dying batteries, ripping solos and clean(ish) two chord backbones forming a very unique angle on the possibilities that the “psychedelic rock” format could aspire towards.

Tom Carter was recently on a tour with Charlambides where he developed a very serious case of Pneumonia. He has now returned to the US but requires ongoing treatment. As a result, Pete Swanson and MIE Music have agreed to donate all profits from the new album to The Robert Thomas Carter Irrevocable Trust and we hope to spread the word of this vital release to aid the cause and to promote this splendid music.

Pittsburgh hardcore warriors Heartless announce UK/EU tour this October

31 Aug

Pittsburgh hardcore warriors HEARTLESS dropped their debut full-length Hell Is Other People via Southern Lord debut on November 8th last year, with an LP pressing following shortly afterwards. HEARTLESS’ sound is exactly what their moniker implies; brutal, suffocating, and void of remorse. Bellowing with sinister, mayhem that diehards of metallic hardcore in the vein of Integrity, Cursed or Nails, rushing with crust/powerviolence intensity. Hell Is Other People propels thirteen intense tracks at the listener in barely twenty-one minutes, and now the band are taking the material on a huge UK / EU tour so that we can experience it all live.

UFOMAMMUT: Third Video From ORO: Opus Alter Released Via The Obelisk

28 Aug

The release of the second and final installment of UFOMAMMUT’s ORO album series, ORO: Opus Alter, is on the horizon, with a street date of September 17th via Neurot Recordings. In preparation for its release, following suit with previously released videos of the opening track “Oroborus” and the second song “Luxon,” today “Sulphurdew,” the third of the five tracks contained on the album has been released.

The more than twelve-minute-long visual depiction of the crushing “Sulphurdew” is viewable first via The Obelisk, who proclaimed in praise of Opus Alter: “UFOMAMMUT’s triumph with Oro is as monumental as their tones are large. Theirs is among the finest executions of space doom in the world today, and the two parts of Oro ultimately succeed in picking up where Eve left off without seeming either redundant or a step backwards from that album’s landmark brilliance.”

Immerse yourself in the potent, organic obliteration of “Sulphurdew,” alongside an excellent interview with the band on the creation of their ORO double-opus and more, RIGHT HERE.

The limited edition 2xLP version of ORO: Opus Alter — hand-screened by some of UFOMAMMUT’s own through their unified works with Malleus Art Labs, and in conjunction with their Supernatural Cat Records label in Italy – can now be preordered directly HERE.

Further updates on UFOMAMMUT, including the anticipated final two anthems from the ORO series and more, will be available in the coming days.

Sic Alps premiere new video for album track ‘Glyphs’

28 Aug
NEW SELF-TITLED ALBUM OUT SEPTEMBER 17TH ON DRAG CITY

In their new fever-dream of a video, which premiered this week on Pitchfork.tv, Sic Alps set up an audience of one, a jean jacket-clad scarecrow, while they “perform” for him. The performance includes instrument smashing, smoke bomb bashing, and other examples of entertainment, interspersed with flashes of romanticism. Their concert eventually ends and it’s time to send the rapt spectator home. The Alps won’t recycle a tired principle, though. Set fire to their instruments? F*ck that; they set fire to their audience.

Neurosis unveil cover art and tracklisting for tenth studio album: Honor Found In Decay

28 Aug

Anticipation for Honor Found In Decay, the tenth studio album by Neurosis, is really starting to intensify, as we count down each day that passes until 29 October is finally upon us. Like an eclipse, a brand new Neurosis album is not a frequent occurrence and when it comes around, every last moment must be savoured. For this momentous event, all the forces are aligned.

Neurosis have again forged an alliance with honoured engineer Steve Albini, with whom they have a longstanding relationship, who captured their monolithic sound at Electrical Audio studios, Chicago, then mastered by John Golden at Golden Mastering in Ventura. This marks their fifth collaboration with Mr Albini, unsurprising then that Neurosis have been invited to perform at ATP’s Nightmare Before Christmas on 30 November – 2 December which Shellac are curating.

Aesthetics have always been paramount for Neurosis and with Honor Found In Decay, Steve Von Till, Scott Kelly, Noah Landis, Jason Roeder and Dave Edwardson’s musical vision is brilliantly evoked by Neurosis’ visual guru Josh Graham, who has really excelled himself. And with that, we are delighted to share with you the cover art for this prodigious album:

Continuing the good news, we can also proudly divulge some further details about Honor Found In Decay including the tracklisting which is as follows:

TRACK LISTING:

1 We All Rage In Gold

2 At The Well

3 My Heart For Deliverance

4 Bleeding The Pigs

5 Casting Of The Ages

6 All Is Found… In Time

7 Raise The Dawn

There are still plenty more announcements to make in the coming weeks and of course, music to share, so please keep your ear to the ground for more updates. Meanwhile, cherish this visual insight into this wonderful work of art, which is shaping up to be one of the biggest releases in the band’s extensive history.

Aurora Borealis sign Seirom and announce album release this October

28 Aug

Aurora Borealis may have been quiet for a few months now but one can always trust that when they emerge, they will do so with superb  albums by exciting musicians such as Grumbling Fur, Haxan Cloak and now SEIROM.

Aurora Borealis are very proud to announce the release of 1973, a double album from SEIROM.

SEIROM is about ‘beauty’ and melancholy, the more beautiful aspects of life.

SEIROM is about personal expression without boundaries, internal or external.

SEIROM is about grand bombastic melody filtered through noise and black metal aesthetics. The marriage of wedding bells to blastbeats.

About a certain feeling…a longing lost long ago.

SEIROM is M.C De Jong, mastermind of Gnaw Their Tongues, ADERLATING and others, a stalwart of bleak and desolate music for many years. SEIROM sees a different side of De Jong’s musical output, an outpouring of glorious light spread across two CDs.

You can sample the music on the following link via the Aurora Borealis website.

Kranky presents Oren Ambarchi and Robin Fox collaboration this October

28 Aug

Presenting a new collaboration featuring Oren Ambarchi on guitar, the electronics of Robin Fox, and both performing on various other instruments. The music on this album came about as the result of the two being asked to co-compose the soundtrack for a new production by renowned Australian contemporary dance company Chunky Move for their Connected production.

Chunky Move’s artistic director Gideon Obarzanek was drawn to the organic and deeply musical qualities of Ambarchi’s work and the digital, almost scientific quality of Fox’s sound. Over a process of many weeks these two aesthetics were merged. Working both in the Chunky Move studio and Head-gap studio in Melbourne, new works were forged from both digital and analog sources.

This release brings together two of the most extraordinary artist/musicians working in Australia today. Both are renowned internationally for their individual practices, and here they join forces to produce powerful music that fuses Ambarchi’s legendary guitar sound with Fox’s mathematically rigorous tones and textures. This fusion results in sound works that stretch in scope from the sublime and spacious to the intensely dense and foreboding. Treading a precarious line between music and abstract sound, between organic and inorganic tones, this collaboration is a must listen for anyone interested in contemporary soundworks.

Release date 22 October 2012

Press Quotes for Oren Ambarchi

“Ambarchi’s patience in allowing calm tones to live healthy, long lives creates a blinking grid. It’s what I imagine a black and white Lite Brite would sound like if it were allowed a temporary whisper.” – Pitchfork

“Oren Ambarchi’s work, both solo and in collaboration with names as wide-ranging as Fire! and Sunn O))), finds him twisting guitar tones to the point where they fold in upon themselves.’ – The Quietus

Press Quotes for Robin Fox

“A really incredible mix of full-blown-out rectified-wave digital histrionics and a ridiculous psychedelic light show…” – Keith Fullerton Whitman

“The distortion of space and reality is awe-inspiring.” – New York Theatre review

Ritual Productions release Bong’s self titled album on CD for the first time

28 Aug

Hot on the heels of the acclaimed new album Mana Yood Sushai and following a ton of positive feedback from recent live shows, Bong are resurrecting some of their back-catalogue via their spiritual home, Ritual Productions.

Their debut 2009 self-titled album was originally released on vinyl, limited to 500 copies and with just two edited album tracks, ‘Wizards Of Krull’ and ‘The Starlit Grotto’. This October, Ritual will be releasing the album for the first time ever on CD and digitally, including the full versions of these tracks and one unreleased bonus track entitled ‘Asleep’.

This revitalised collection will remind people of Bong’s beginnings, when their early meditative hymns were first committed to wax. The bonus track is a rare treat too, witness Bong at their darkest, most mournful and most psychedelic. To my mind, one of their greatest compositions.

Overall, a great collectible and an interesting comparison to their new material. These jams still sound so utterly entrancing.

This release will see the light of day on 1 October.

Neurosis added to ATP’s Nightmare Before Christmas

20 Aug
ATP have just announced NEUROSIS as part of their Nightmare Before Christmas festival event curated by SHELLAC OF NORTH AMERICA to help celebrate their 20th anniversary as a band, and the return of the festival to its original home of Pontins Camber Sands Holiday Camp.

NEUROSIS joins the 35 band bill which will be playing across the event on the venue’s excellent indoor stages featuring award winning sound, with DJs until late, Cinema and much more.

Steve Albini of Shellac: “The members of Shellac are inviting more of our favorite bands to ATP. Some, like Melt Banana and Uzeda, are old friends and comrades. Some, like Neurosis, Prinzhorn Dance School and Buke and Gase, are bands we’ve admired as fans, but all of them are bands we love and recommend to everyone.

For over 12 years ATP has set itself apart from other festivals by embracing seemingly disparate artistic genres, with events featuring art exhibitions, cinema programmes, spoken word performances and stand up comedy. Tickets for ATP’s Nightmare Before Xmas curated by Shellac Of North America are priced at £180 per person including festival entry + accommodation on sale via atpfestival.com
NEUROSIS are top of the list of the new additions to this brilliant festival, and with news this week of the release of their tenth album there is now even more to be excited about.
Stay tuned for more announcements in the coming weeks and read on to find out about their brand new album….

The follow-up to their acclaimed 2007-released Given To The Rising album, the music on Honor Found In Decay is both torturous and transcendent. It is the ongoing exposition of a vast internal dialogue that seems to carry the weight of eons. With the right kind of ears and eyes, it can seem like the trials and tribulations of mankind are being channeled through five individuals: Steve Von Till, Scott Kelly, Noah Landis, Jason Roeder and Dave Edwardson. And yet? They will be the first ones to tell you that they are just regular people trying to make sense of the world around them. Aided by Josh Graham, their resident visual guru, they transmit their interpretations through multiple sensory planes. The degree to which Neurosis allows them to step out of their everyday lives is the distance between one and zero, the distance between thinking and doing, the distance between this minute and the one that may or may not follow. Which is to say: NEUROSIS takes them outside of themselves and brings them closer to themselves. Simultaneously.

This next chapter in the evolution of NEUROSIS will see worldwide release through the band’s own Neurot Recordings this Autumn, in Germany October 26th, in the UK October 29th, and in North America on October 30th.

Further details on Honor Found In Decay will be made available over the coming weeks.
