Sarin Smoke unleash giveaway track from brand new album

31 Aug

On September 17th, MIE in partnership with Rarely Unable PR will unleash the latest LP by Sarin Smoke, entitled Vent. In anticipation of the release the label are giving away one track, ‘Upsound’, for your listening pleasure. You can download it from Soundcloud now.

After performing at a concert in Oakland in 2010 and feeling proud of their musical output, Tom and Pete decided to collaborate with one another again. The resulting record amalgamates Tom’s recent self-oscillating, power starved shredding psychedelia, with Pete’s self proclaimed “more neanderthal attempts at VU/Roy Montgomery inspired simple melodicism”. Ultimately, the album is an unusual haze of oscillator sweeps, dying batteries, ripping solos and clean(ish) two chord backbones forming a very unique angle on the possibilities that the “psychedelic rock” format could aspire towards.

Tom Carter was recently on a tour with Charlambides where he developed a very serious case of Pneumonia. He has now returned to the US but requires ongoing treatment. As a result, Pete Swanson and MIE Music have agreed to donate all profits from the new album to The Robert Thomas Carter Irrevocable Trust and we hope to spread the word of this vital release to aid the cause and to promote this splendid music.

Hell Is Other People propels thirteen intense tracks at the listener in barely twenty-one minutes, and now the band are taking the material on a huge UK / EU tour so that we can experience it all live.

UFOMAMMUT: Third Video From ORO: Opus Alter Released Via The Obelisk

28 Aug

The release of the second and final installment of UFOMAMMUT’s ORO album series, ORO: Opus Alter, is on the horizon, with a street date of September 17th via Neurot Recordings. In preparation for its release, following suit with previously released videos of the opening track “Oroborus” and the second song “Luxon,” today “Sulphurdew,” the third of the five tracks contained on the album has been released.

The more than twelve-minute-long visual depiction of the crushing “Sulphurdew” is viewable first via The Obelisk, who proclaimed in praise of Opus Alter: “UFOMAMMUT’s triumph with Oro is as monumental as their tones are large. Theirs is among the finest executions of space doom in the world today, and the two parts of Oro ultimately succeed in picking up where Eve left off without seeming either redundant or a step backwards from that album’s landmark brilliance.”

Immerse yourself in the potent, organic obliteration of “Sulphurdew,” alongside an excellent interview with the band on the creation of their ORO double-opus and more, RIGHT HERE.

The limited edition 2xLP version of ORO: Opus Alter — hand-screened by some of UFOMAMMUT’s own through their unified works with Malleus Art Labs, and in conjunction with their Supernatural Cat Records label in Italy – can now be preordered directly HERE.

Sic Alps premiere new video for album track ‘Glyphs’

28 Aug

In their new fever-dream of a video, which premiered this week on, Sic Alps set up an audience of one, a jean jacket-clad scarecrow, while they “perform” for him. The performance includes instrument smashing, smoke bomb bashing, and other examples of entertainment, interspersed with flashes of romanticism. Their concert eventually ends and it’s time to send the rapt spectator home. The Alps won’t recycle a tired principle, though. Set fire to their instruments? F*ck that; they set fire to their audience.

Neurosis unveil cover art and tracklisting for tenth studio album: Honor Found In Decay

28 Aug

Anticipation for Honor Found In Decay, the tenth studio album by Neurosis, is really starting to intensify, as we count down each day that passes until 29 October is finally upon us. Like an eclipse, a brand new Neurosis album is not a frequent occurrence and when it comes around, every last moment must be savoured. For this momentous event, all the forces are aligned.

Neurosis have again forged an alliance with honoured engineer Steve Albini, with whom they have a longstanding relationship, who captured their monolithic sound at Electrical Audio studios, Chicago, then mastered by John Golden at Golden Mastering in Ventura. This marks their fifth collaboration with Mr Albini, unsurprising then that Neurosis have been invited to perform at ATP’s Nightmare Before Christmas on 30 November – 2 December which Shellac are curating.

Aesthetics have always been paramount for Neurosis and with Honor Found In Decay, Steve Von Till, Scott Kelly, Noah Landis, Jason Roeder and Dave Edwardson’s musical vision is brilliantly evoked by Neurosis’ visual guru Josh Graham, who has really excelled himself. And with that, we are delighted to share with you the cover art for this prodigious album:

Continuing the good news, we can also proudly divulge some further details about Honor Found In Decay including the tracklisting which is as follows:

1 We All Rage In Gold

2 At The Well

3 My Heart For Deliverance

4 Bleeding The Pigs

5 Casting Of The Ages

6 All Is Found… In Time

7 Raise The Dawn

There are still plenty more announcements to make in the coming weeks and of course, music to share, so please keep your ear to the ground for more updates. Meanwhile, cherish this visual insight into this wonderful work of art, which is shaping up to be one of the biggest releases in the band’s extensive history.

Aurora Borealis sign Seirom and announce album release this October

28 Aug

Aurora Borealis may have been quiet for a few months now but one can always trust that when they emerge, they will do so with superb  albums by exciting musicians such as Grumbling Fur, Haxan Cloak and now SEIROM.

Aurora Borealis are very proud to announce the release of 1973, a double album from SEIROM.

SEIROM is about ‘beauty’ and melancholy, the more beautiful aspects of life.

SEIROM is about personal expression without boundaries, internal or external.

SEIROM is about grand bombastic melody filtered through noise and black metal aesthetics. The marriage of wedding bells to blastbeats.

About a certain feeling…a longing lost long ago.

SEIROM is M.C De Jong, mastermind of Gnaw Their Tongues, ADERLATING and others, a stalwart of bleak and desolate music for many years. SEIROM sees a different side of De Jong’s musical output, an outpouring of glorious light spread across two CDs.

You can sample the music on the following link via the Aurora Borealis website.

Kranky presents Oren Ambarchi and Robin Fox collaboration this October

28 Aug

Presenting a new collaboration featuring Oren Ambarchi on guitar, the electronics of Robin Fox, and both performing on various other instruments. The music on this album came about as the result of the two being asked to co-compose the soundtrack for a new production by renowned Australian contemporary dance company Chunky Move for their Connected production.

Chunky Move’s artistic director Gideon Obarzanek was drawn to the organic and deeply musical qualities of Ambarchi’s work and the digital, almost scientific quality of Fox’s sound. Over a process of many weeks these two aesthetics were merged. Working both in the Chunky Move studio and Head-gap studio in Melbourne, new works were forged from both digital and analog sources.

This release brings together two of the most extraordinary artist/musicians working in Australia today. Both are renowned internationally for their individual practices, and here they join forces to produce powerful music that fuses Ambarchi’s legendary guitar sound with Fox’s mathematically rigorous tones and textures. This fusion results in sound works that stretch in scope from the sublime and spacious to the intensely dense and foreboding. Treading a precarious line between music and abstract sound, between organic and inorganic tones, this collaboration is a must listen for anyone interested in contemporary soundworks.

Release date 22 October 2012

Press Quotes for Oren Ambarchi

“Ambarchi’s patience in allowing calm tones to live healthy, long lives creates a blinking grid. It’s what I imagine a black and white Lite Brite would sound like if it were allowed a temporary whisper.” – Pitchfork

“Oren Ambarchi’s work, both solo and in collaboration with names as wide-ranging as Fire! and Sunn O))), finds him twisting guitar tones to the point where they fold in upon themselves.’ – The Quietus

Press Quotes for Robin Fox

“A really incredible mix of full-blown-out rectified-wave digital histrionics and a ridiculous psychedelic light show…” – Keith Fullerton Whitman

“The distortion of space and reality is awe-inspiring.” – New York Theatre review
