New Boris video

22 Oct

More messed up than ever before, this is the brand new Boris video Heavy Metal Rock Hits Vol.2. A really awesome video of riff heavy Japanese metallic hardcore (think Tokyo Yankees, GISM, Deathside, Paintbox etc…)

KILLER!!!!!

And…you will be pleased to hear that the second of three new Boris 7″s is available now! Volume Two, “H.M.A. – Heavy Metal Addict”, features two newly recorded tracks. On Side A, the title track “H.M.A.” is a heady slab of heavy metal tropes, alternating between spacey industrial SFX, hard-driving guitar and the mantra-like chants of the titular acronym. Side B continues with “Black Original”, which echoes the spacey, electronic drive of “H.M.A.”, but cuts out any pretense towards the heavy rock vibe of Boris’ work, instead leaning towards a very basic electro-industrial approach. Cover features the controversial photo (ala Cold Lake era Celtic Frost!) of Atsuo. TRULY GRIMM!

Vic Chesnutt on Quietus

19 Oct

Wyndham Wallace recently spoke to Vic Chesnutt about his career and new album and wound up producing one of the greatest interviews with Vic in recent times.

You can read the interview at length on the Quietus website and check out exclusive tracks from his new album At The Cut and his previous album North Star Deserter as well as countless video footage. It is extensive and well worth checking out.

Picture 11The Quietus are getting praise from other sources too and were listed as one of the top 25 websites in the Independent at the weekend.

Other recommendations on site include their extensive gallery of famous celebrities supporting the latest Sunn0))) album Monoliths And Dimensions. Hilarious.

Little Annie and Paul Wallfisch video preview, forthcoming album and London show

Little Annie (aka Annie Anxiety) and Paul Wallfisch have recently completed their brand new album Genderful which is going to be coming out early in the new year. Their previous album When Good Things Happen To Bad Pianos found them transforming ten existing songs into gloriously heartbreaking torch-songs and poignant ballads, the new album on the other hand, from what I have heard, is one of brand new compositions.

To me, Annie is an absolute legend, what a life she has led. I am happy to be announcing their new album’s arrival on Southern Records and look forward to sending out promos for this later in the year. Prior to the release there will be playing a special one off UK show (their only UK show in 2009 in fact) at Bush Hall on November 23rd.

If anyone was lucky enough to see the duo perform in support of Marc Almond last year in London then you may agree with me when I say that their dynamic is totally sublime, on stage and on record.

One of their new tunes ‘Because You’re Gone Song’ is premiering on youtube now. Check it out for a little taster.

ROCK A ROLLA – WE HEART YOU

1 Oct

Rock A Rolla magazine in the UK have a simple manifesto, they claim to be “the world’s only publication entirely dedicated to avant-rock, noise and experimental sounds.” The magazine is available in newsagents, record stores, bookshops and other fine outlets world wide and there is no denying that it is a killer magazine if you are a fan of the aforementioned genres!

Each issue is littered with reviews and features covering an array of awesome artists and a large percentage are often from the SRD/Southern family. This month there is no exception with major features on Mad Love (Ipecac), The Accused (Southern Lord), Eagle Twin (Southern Lord), Celan (Exile On Mainstream) and a label focus on Kranky. Add to that a huge live special of Supersonic Festival which many of our bands featured. THANKS GUYS!!!!

Just wanted to give the magazine some praise on the blog. Please visit their website to learn more!
